Chennai residents can look forward to a welcome change in weather, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a spell of light to moderate rainfall and cooler temperatures starting Monday, 5 May. After enduring several weeks of intense summer heat, this forecast brings hope for much-needed relief across the city.
On Sunday, 4 May, conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy, with maximum temperatures around 37°C and nighttime lows of about 29°C. However, the weather is likely to take a turn from Monday onward, with the possibility of moderate showers or thunderstorms under partly cloudy skies.
The wet spell is expected to continue into Tuesday (6 May) and Wednesday (7 May), accompanied by generally overcast conditions. Daytime temperatures may drop slightly to around 36°C, with nighttime temperatures falling to approximately 28°C, offering a brief reprieve from the recent heatwave.
From Thursday (8 May) through Saturday (10 May), weather conditions are expected to stabilise. While significant rainfall is unlikely during this period, some cloud cover may linger over the region.
Meteorologists note that the first half of the week will likely be wetter, and they advise residents to be prepared for sudden showers by keeping umbrellas or raincoats handy. If the forecast holds true, the rainfall could offer temporary relief from the persistent heat that has dominated Chennai’s weather in recent weeks.
