Two major international flights operated by Air India from Kempegowda International Airport were cancelled on Thursday, following the airline’s recent announcement to scale back operations on long-haul routes.
Flight AI 175 to San Francisco, scheduled to depart at 1:20 p.m., and flight AI 133 to London Heathrow, scheduled for 2:15 p.m., were both cancelled, airport sources confirmed.
The cancellations come a day after Air India announced a 15% reduction in international services operated by its widebody fleet, comprising Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Boeing 777 aircraft. These aircraft primarily operate long-haul and ultra-long-haul international routes.
The San Francisco route, operated by a Boeing 777-200LR, is known to be one of the longest non-stop commercial flights operated by any Indian carrier, covering a direct distance of approximately 13,993 kilometers. The London service uses the Boeing 787 aircraft.
Air India has also stated that it will reduce the frequency of its Bengaluru–London flights from daily to six times a week, starting June 21. This temporary adjustment is expected to remain in effect until at least July 15, 2025.
The airline has not specified the reasons behind the reduction in services, but the move is believed to be part of a broader operational review aimed at optimizing fleet utilization during a period of high global demand and ongoing maintenance challenges across long-haul aircraft fleets.
Passengers affected by the cancellations have been advised to contact Air India’s customer support for rebooking or refunds.
