FAO Presents World Food Forum 2024: A Platform for Global Agrifood Transformation

The stage is set for the World Food Forum (WFF) 2024, as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) reveals the intricate framework of this year’s event. Held under the theme “Good food for all, for today and tomorrow,” the WFF 2024 promises a comprehensive exploration of critical issues surrounding food security and sustainability.

Culmination in a Flagship Event

Scheduled to take place from 14th to 18th October, the WFF 2024 will culminate in a flagship event featuring a diverse array of sessions. These sessions will focus on Global Youth Action, Science and Innovation, and Hand-in-Hand Investment, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in shaping the future of agrifood systems.

Spotlight on Family Farming

Integral to the WFF 2024 is the spotlight on the Mid-term Forum of the UN Decade of Family Farming. This segment will celebrate the pivotal role of family farming in fostering diverse, innovative, and dynamic agrifood systems. With a focus on youth-led initiatives and policy development, the forum aims to champion the resilience and sustainability of family farming practices.

Aligning with World Food Day

The flagship event of WFF 2024 will coincide with the annual celebration of World Food Day on 16th October. Under the theme “Right to Foods,” this year’s World Food Day underscores the importance of diversity, nutrition, affordability, and safety in ensuring universal access to a healthy diet. The occasion also marks the countdown to FAO’s 80th anniversary in 2025.

A Call to Action

Speaking at the event, Máximo Torero, Chief Economist and Chair of the FAO Youth Committee, emphasized the importance of integrated collaboration to transform agrifood systems. With the participation of FAO members, directors, and youth representatives, the WFF 2024 aims to leverage intergenerational collaboration, partnerships, and creativity to address pressing challenges.

Key Participants

Key figures such as FAO Deputy Director-General Maurizio Martina and Assistant Director-General and Chief Scientist a.i, Beth Crawford, were among the prominent participants at the event. Their involvement underscores the FAO’s commitment to fostering dialogue and innovation in the pursuit of sustainable food systems.

Empowering Youth Leadership

Established in 2021, the World Food Forum (WFF) serves as an independent, youth-led global network facilitated by FAO. It seeks to empower young people worldwide to actively shape agrifood systems and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through bold solutions and multi-sector partnerships, the WFF 2024 aims to catalyze transformative action for a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food future.

As the world grapples with unprecedented challenges in food security and sustainability, the World Food Forum 2024 emerges as a beacon of hope and collaboration. By harnessing the collective expertise and creativity of stakeholders across generations, the WFF 2024 seeks to pave the way for a brighter, hunger-free future for all.
