
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived at San Francisco International Airport on Sunday for a five-day official visit to the United States, scheduled from April 20 to 25. She was welcomed by India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, and the Consul General of India in San Francisco, Dr. Srikar Reddy Koppula. Finance Secretary Ajay Seth was also present at the airport to receive her.
The Ministry of Finance shared the update on X (formerly Twitter), noting Sitharaman’s arrival and the warm reception she received from Indian diplomatic officials in the US.
During her two-day stop in San Francisco, beginning April 20, Sitharaman is set to address the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. She will deliver a keynote speech titled “Laying the Foundations of Viksit Bharat 2047”, followed by a fireside chat session. The agenda includes a roundtable meeting with leading investors and fund managers, as well as bilateral meetings with top executives from major technology companies based in the region.
Additionally, she will attend a special event with the Indian diaspora and engage with members of the Indian community residing in San Francisco.
From April 22 to 25, Sitharaman will shift to Washington, D.C., where she will participate in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. Her itinerary includes the second G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) Meeting, the Development Committee Plenary, the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) Plenary, and the Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable (GSDR).
On the sidelines of these multilateral forums, she is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with finance ministers and central bank leaders from countries including the USA, the UK, Germany, France, Bahrain, Argentina, Luxembourg, and Saudi Arabia.
Further meetings are lined up with the EU Commissioner for Financial Services, as well as with the Presidents of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Sitharaman will also interact with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health and the First Deputy Managing Director of the IMF.
Following the conclusion of her US visit, the Finance Minister will head to Peru from April 26 to 30 for her maiden official visit to the South American nation.
