Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Navi Mumbai International Airport on Wednesday, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation infrastructure.
Developed at an estimated cost of ₹19,647 crore, the state-of-the-art airport spans 1,160 hectares and has been designed to decongest the Mumbai metropolitan region’s air traffic. The project is being implemented in five phases, with the first phase ready to handle up to two crore passengers annually and manage five lakh tonnes of cargo.
When fully completed, the airport will feature four terminals capable of accommodating nine crore passengers every year and handling 3.25 million tonnes of cargo. The facility aims to serve as a key hub for both domestic and international travel, while also boosting trade and logistics in the region.
The Navi Mumbai airport is expected to significantly ease pressure on the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and enhance connectivity across western India.
