Google Beam Set to Launch with HP Partnership
One of the headline announcements was the evolution of Project Starline into Google Beam, which will debut later this year in collaboration with HP. Designed to revolutionize remote communication, Google Beam uses sophisticated 3D imaging and AI to simulate lifelike, face-to-face video interactions. Pichai emphasized its ability to produce realistic 3D representations and enable natural eye contact—features often missing in traditional video calls.
Additionally, Google Meet will soon offer real-time speech translation, allowing users who speak different languages to engage in seamless conversations. Notably, the system will retain the original speaker’s voice tone, inflection, and expressions for a more authentic experience. The translation feature is currently available in English and Spanish for subscribers, with plans to expand into Italian, German, and Portuguese for Workspace users later this year.
Gemini Live Camera Expands to Search on Mobile Devices
Google also showcased enhancements to Gemini Live, an AI-driven visual assistant. This feature, already available on Android and iPhones, allows users to interact with their environment through their smartphone cameras. By simply pointing the camera and speaking naturally, users can receive instant information about objects, places, or text in real time. Pichai confirmed that Gemini Live will soon integrate into Google Search as part of the expanded AI Mode on mobile platforms.
Project Mariner Enhancements Bring Smarter Task Automation
Another key highlight was the update to Project Mariner, a Chrome extension developed by Google DeepMind. The tool uses Gemini’s agentic AI capabilities to automate complex web browsing tasks such as online research, bookings, and shopping. With the latest update, the AI agent can now handle up to 10 tasks simultaneously, making it a powerful productivity assistant for users navigating the web.
