Banks across various regions in India will observe holidays on June 6 and June 7, 2025, in celebration of Eid-ul-Ad’ha, also known as Bakrid. According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official bank holiday calendar, both public sector and private sector banks will remain shut in several parts of the country on these dates. Additionally, banks nationwide will be closed on Sunday, June 8, as part of the regular weekend holiday.
Bank Closures on June 6 and 7
On Friday, June 6, banks in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi will be closed in observance of Bakrid. The Islamic festival commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering faith and willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of submission to God.
On Saturday, June 7, banks will remain shut in most parts of the country, with the exception of Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram. In these cities, banks will operate as usual since the first Saturday of each month is not typically a holiday under RBI norms. The second and fourth Saturdays of every month are designated as bank holidays, while Sundays are standard non-working days for banks across India.
Online Banking Services to Continue Uninterrupted
Despite the physical closures, online banking services will function normally on both June 6 and 7. Customers can continue to carry out financial transactions via mobile apps, internet banking platforms, and UPI services.
Digital services such as fund transfers (NEFT/RTGS), UPI payments, card-related transactions, and form submissions for chequebooks or demand drafts will remain accessible. Customers can also manage their accounts online, set up standing instructions, and apply for services like lockers through digital portals.
Important Note for Customers
Bank holidays in India vary depending on the region and are based on national, state, or religious occasions. Customers are advised to regularly check the RBI’s bank holiday calendar to stay informed about closures in their respective states.
In summary, while banks will remain closed in selected regions on June 6 and across most parts of India on June 7 for Bakrid celebrations, online banking will ensure uninterrupted access to financial services during this period.
