India has firmly dismissed China’s latest attempt to rename several places in Arunachal Pradesh, reiterating that the state remains an inseparable part of the country. The response comes after Beijing announced new Chinese names for some locations in the northeastern Indian state, which China refers to as part of southern Tibet.
Reacting strongly to the move, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the action as “preposterous” and “vain,” asserting that such symbolic gestures will not alter ground realities.
“We have noticed that China has persisted with its vain and preposterous attempts to name places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh,” Jaiswal stated in response to a media query. “Consistent with our principled position, we reject such attempts categorically.”
India and China have had long-standing border disputes, especially over Arunachal Pradesh, which China claims as part of its territory. However, India maintains that the state has always been and will remain an integral part of the country.
“Creative naming will not alter the undeniable reality that Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” Jaiswal asserted.
This is not the first time China has attempted to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh. India has consistently rejected such efforts, labeling them as meaningless and politically motivated.
