In a significant step towards improving the delivery of welfare schemes, the Delhi government is working on establishing a ‘Unified Data Hub’ to ensure that only eligible beneficiaries receive aid, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The initiative, being spearheaded by the Information Technology (IT) Department, aims to consolidate data from various departments that oversee welfare schemes in the national capital. According to officials, this centralized data system will help eliminate ineligible recipients and prevent duplication of benefits across multiple government schemes.
“The data hub will serve as a central repository of personal and household information of beneficiaries,” a senior government official said. “It will include crucial details such as name, family size, occupation, income, address, caste, age, educational qualifications, and gender.”
By integrating such comprehensive data, the system is expected to automate and streamline the eligibility verification process for a wide range of welfare initiatives. The platform will cross-reference data from departments including Food and Civil Supplies, Revenue, Delhi Jal Board, Power, Trade and Taxes, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Officials believe the data hub will lead to better targeting of subsidies and government assistance, reducing the chances of fraudulent claims or overlapping benefits.
“This unified system will not only improve transparency but also ensure that public resources are used more efficiently,” the official added.
The project reflects the government’s broader push towards digital governance and improved accountability in public service delivery.
