Assam Police successfully thwarted an attempt by three Bangladeshi nationals to enter India illegally through the Sribhumi area, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed on Thursday.
Taking to social media platform X, Sarma revealed that the individuals were apprehended during a security operation and were promptly sent back across the border. The three individuals have been identified as Mahi Moni, Siza Nur alias Jhumur, and Md Abu Bakar Siddik.
“With strict vigilance in place, they were swiftly apprehended and pushed back across the border. Good job,” Sarma stated, commending the police force for their prompt action.
This incident adds to a growing tally of illegal entry attempts being thwarted in the region. Since August last year, more than 330 individuals attempting unauthorized entry into Assam have been intercepted and pushed back.
Security measures along the 1,885-kilometre-long Indo-Bangladesh border in the Northeast have been heightened, particularly in light of political unrest in Bangladesh over the past year. Authorities have increased patrolling and surveillance to prevent unlawful cross-border movements.
The Assam government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the state’s borders and taking decisive action against infiltration.
