In a statement likely to further strain U.S.-Russia relations, a top aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin has alleged that U.S. President Donald Trump is not fully informed about the realities of the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war.
Yuri Ushakov, a senior Kremlin advisor and former ambassador to the U.S., made the claim during an interview with Kremlin-affiliated journalist Pavel Zarubin, as reported by ABC News. Ushakov suggested that Trump is unaware of the alleged extent of Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory, which Moscow characterizes as acts of terrorism.
“There is a lot that Trump says—we read it all, track it,” Ushakov stated. “But we often come to the conclusion that he is not getting enough information about what is actually happening in the Ukrainian-Russian confrontation.”
Ushakov specifically accused Ukraine of carrying out repeated strikes on Russian cities, describing them as terrorist attacks targeting civilians. He argued that Trump is only seeing Russia’s military responses and does not understand what Moscow claims are provocations from Kyiv.
“Trump only knows what countermeasures we are taking,” he added. “And he does not fully understand that we are attacking military institutions or military industrial complexes.”
Trump Frustrated as Conflict Deepens
Since his return to the White House in January, President Trump has vowed to bring an end to the Ukraine war within 24 hours. However, the conflict has only intensified, with both Russia and Ukraine increasing military operations. Civilian casualties have surged amid renewed aerial assaults and strikes on infrastructure.
Trump has expressed growing frustration over the stalled peace efforts. In recent days, his tone toward Putin has sharpened dramatically. On Sunday, Trump referred to Putin as “absolutely crazy” in a social media post. Two days later, he wrote:
“What Putin doesn’t realize is that if it weren’t for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD. He’s playing with fire!”
Kremlin Peace Proposal Delayed
The tension follows a recent phone call between Trump and Putin, during which the Kremlin reportedly agreed to provide a memorandum outlining a proposed path to peace. As of now, that document has not been made public.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has cast doubt on the Kremlin’s intentions, suggesting that Russia is using diplomatic overtures as a cover while continuing its military campaign.
“They’ve already spent over a week on this,” Zelensky said in a social media post. “They talk a lot about diplomacy. But all the while, Russian strikes continue—so do the killings, the assaults, and preparations for new offensives.”
Civilians Suffer Amid Escalation
Although Moscow insists its strikes are focused solely on military targets, recent attacks have devastated Ukrainian civilian areas. Residential neighborhoods have been hit by drone and missile strikes, leading to dozens of civilian deaths and widespread destruction.
The rising toll on non-combatants has drawn sharp criticism from international observers, as the conflict shows no signs of abating despite diplomatic efforts from the U.S. and other global powers.
As the war grinds on, questions remain about whether Trump’s administration can broker a ceasefire, or if deepening hostilities will overshadow any hope of negotiation.
