Delhi experienced an unusually warm morning on Thursday, with the minimum temperature rising to 25.9°C — nearly 6 degrees above the seasonal average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather department has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by rain for Thursday and Friday, which could provide a slight respite from the heat. The maximum temperature is likely to reach around 39°C, IMD added.
Meanwhile, the city’s air quality remained in the “poor” category. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) showed the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 243 as of 9 AM. The AQI scale categorizes values between 201 and 300 as “poor,” indicating that the air quality may cause discomfort for people with respiratory issues.
The IMD’s rain forecast could help in temporarily improving the air quality by reducing dust and particulate matter in the atmosphere. However, authorities have advised residents, especially those with health conditions, to take necessary precautions.
As Delhi continues to battle rising temperatures and pollution, weather experts emphasize the importance of staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
