The first day of the Staff Selection Commission’s (SSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Tier-I examination 2025 witnessed major disruptions, with tests being cancelled at several centres in Delhi, Gurugram, and Jammu due to technical and administrative issues.
In Delhi, the Bharti Vidya Niketan Public School centre was among those affected, while in Gurugram, the M M Public School reported cancellations for both September 13 and 14. A notice put up outside one of the Delhi centres cited “administrative reasons” for the cancellations. Candidates allotted these centres have now been rescheduled to appear on September 24, 25, and 26.
In Jammu, the Digital Computer Education centre faced technical failures during the morning shift. The SSC later announced that candidates impacted here would now take their exams on September 26.
Aspirants expressed frustration over the sudden cancellations. One candidate from Vikaspuri said, “We came prepared for the morning shift, but on arrival, we found the exam had been cancelled. Many of us travelled long distances, and this uncertainty is extremely stressful.”
Several candidates also received emails from the SSC on Friday evening, confirming the rescheduling. One such communication stated that candidates earlier allotted M M Public School, Gurugram, would be shifted to Delhi/NCR centres on later dates.
The SSC has not yet issued an official statement regarding the disruptions.
This setback comes against the backdrop of widespread protests earlier this year, when aspirants raised concerns about mismanagement during the Selection Post Phase 13 examinations held in July–August. Candidates then faced abrupt cancellations, biometric glitches, software crashes, and incorrect centre allotments, prompting demonstrations at Jantar Mantar and the CGO Complex in Delhi.
Acknowledging those issues, SSC Chairperson S. Gopalkrishnan had said that technical lapses occurred because the vendor was handling the process for the first time, but assured that steps were being taken to reduce disruptions in future exams.
The SSC, operating under the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), conducts nationwide recruitment exams for Group B and Group C posts in central government ministries and departments. With lakhs of aspirants appearing each year, even minor disruptions often trigger widespread anxiety and demand for accountability.
