PM Modi Concludes State Visit to Egypt, Returns to India

Prime Minister Modi also took the opportunity to explore Egypt's rich cultural heritage

Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his successful State visit to Egypt and the United States on Sunday as he boarded his flight back to India. During his visit, PM Modi engaged in high-level discussions and signed important agreements to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Egypt and India.

One of the highlights of the visit was the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The two leaders held productive discussions on various aspects of cooperation, including trade, investment, defense, security, renewable energy, and cultural ties.

As a result of their meeting, an agreement was signed to elevate the bilateral relationship to a “Strategic Partnership,” marking a significant milestone in the diplomatic ties between the two nations. In addition to this agreement, three Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were also signed, focusing on agriculture, archaeology and antiquities, and competition law.

Arindam Bagchi, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, shared the details of the meeting on Twitter. He highlighted the comprehensive nature of the discussions, emphasizing the commitment to deepening the partnership between Egypt and India in various sectors. Bagchi also mentioned the signing of the strategic partnership agreement and the three MoUs, demonstrating the diverse range of areas in which the two countries seek to collaborate.

During his visit, PM Modi was bestowed with Egypt’s highest state honor, the ‘Order of Nile,’ by President El-Sisi. This recognition reflects the significance of the visit and the positive rapport between the leaders of both nations.

In addition to official meetings, Prime Minister Modi also took the opportunity to explore Egypt’s rich cultural heritage. He visited the historic Al-Hakim Mosque in Cairo, expressing his admiration for Egypt’s cultural legacy. Moreover, he paid tribute to Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the First World War at the Heliopolis War Cemetery.

PM Modi’s visit also included engagements with business leaders, with a focus on renewable energy and green hydrogen. He met with Hassan Allam, the CEO of Hassan Allam Properties, one of the largest Egyptian companies in the region. The discussions revolved around strengthening cooperation between Indian and Egyptian companies in the renewable energy sector.

Throughout his visit, Prime Minister Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora in Egypt. At the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Cairo, members of the Indian community gathered to greet him, waving the Indian Tricolour and chanting slogans such as “Vande Mataram” and “Modi Modi.” The enthusiastic display of support demonstrated the strong bond between the Indian diaspora and their homeland.

Overall, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s State visit to Egypt and the United States marked an important milestone in the bilateral relationship between India and Egypt. The signing of the strategic partnership agreement and the various MoUs signifies the commitment of both nations to further enhance cooperation in multiple fields.
