Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to his home state of Gujarat starting Monday, during which he will unveil and lay the foundation for multiple development projects totaling over ₹77,400 crore.
According to an official statement, the Prime Minister will begin his visit in Dahod, where he will inaugurate a state-of-the-art locomotive manufacturing facility. This plant will be dedicated to producing 9,000-horsepower electric locomotives for both domestic use and international markets. These advanced locomotives will feature regenerative braking technology, aimed at minimizing energy consumption.
Modi will also flag off a Vande Bharat Express connecting Veraval and Ahmedabad, along with a new express train service between Valsad and Dahod. Additionally, he will inaugurate the newly gauge-converted Katosan-Kalol railway section and launch freight operations on the route.
In the later part of the day, the Prime Minister will head to Bhuj to unveil a series of infrastructure initiatives valued at over ₹53,400 crore. Among these are major transmission projects to facilitate the evacuation of renewable energy from the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, expansions to the state’s transmission network, and the launch of a unit of an ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Tapi.
On Tuesday, Modi will participate in an event commemorating 20 years since the launch of Gujarat’s flagship “Urban Development Year” initiative, which he had introduced in 2005 while serving as the state’s Chief Minister. The program aimed to revamp Gujarat’s urban infrastructure, improve governance, and enhance living standards in cities and towns.
Marking two decades of that landmark initiative, Modi will officially launch the “Urban Development Year 2025” in Gandhinagar. The updated plan focuses on continued urban transformation, along with the introduction of the State Clean Air Programme. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay foundation stones for a range of projects related to urban development, healthcare, and water supply across Gujarat.
This visit underscores the central government’s ongoing emphasis on sustainable infrastructure and modernization in one of India’s fastest-developing states.
