In a groundbreaking collaboration between the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, and Intel India, ‘YUVAi-Youth for Unnati and Vikas with AI‘ has emerged as a beacon of innovation and commitment to building a future-ready workforce. This collaborative initiative, designed to impart essential AI skills to the youth, is set to take center stage at the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit scheduled from December 12-14, 2023.
YUVAi’s primary objective is to deepen the understanding of AI among school students from class 8 to 12 nationwide, empowering them to become not just users but human-centric designers of AI. The program is poised to make a significant impact by fostering responsible AI use to address diverse social challenges.
The YUVAi program unfolds in three phases, ensuring broad participation and skill development among students. The initial cohort witnessed over 8,500 student registrations. Participants engaged in online orientation sessions, where they grasped fundamental AI concepts. Simultaneously, teachers enrolled in the program, undergoing orientation sessions to effectively guide their students.
During the first phase, students submitted innovative AI-based ideas aligned with one of the eight core themes of the program. A staggering response ensued, with more than 750 students submitting their ideas. In the subsequent phase, the top 200 ideas underwent further scrutiny, and students participated in deep dive AI training and mentorship sessions facilitated by certified Intel AI coaches and experts.
The program’s success is underscored by the enthusiastic engagement of students, resulting in the shortlisting of the top 50 projects for the third phase. These students were invited to a four-day face-to-face rapid modeling workshop, receiving personalized mentorship and guidance from industry experts. An on-the-spot project presentation, evaluated by a diverse jury panel, determined the top 10 students whose AI projects will represent YUVAi at the GPAI Summit.
At the GPAI Summit, YUVAi’s top 10 finalists will showcase their AI-based social impact projects, emphasizing the program’s commitment to nurturing talent that can drive positive change. YUVAi aims to inspire collaboration among policymakers, educators, and industry leaders, envisioning a future where AI becomes a catalyst for transformative and socially responsible innovation.
As the world witnesses the unfolding potential of AI, YUVAi stands as a guiding force, steering the next generation towards a future where technology is harnessed for the greater good.
