The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out a flawless flight-test of the New Generation AKASH missile (AKASH-NG) at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha on January 12, 2024, at 1030 hrs.
The test, conducted against a high-speed unmanned aerial target at very low altitude, demonstrated the missile’s prowess in intercepting and destroying the target. The successful execution validated the seamless integration of various components, including the missile equipped with an indigenously developed Radio Frequency Seeker, Launcher, Multi-Function Radar, and Command, Control & Communication system.
To further affirm the system’s performance, a multitude of Radars, Telemetry, and Electro Optical Tracking Systems deployed by ITR, Chandipur, captured invaluable data during the flight-test. Senior officials from DRDO, Indian Air Force (IAF), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) were present to witness the momentous occasion.
