Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday took part in a tree plantation campaign and also inaugurated a new urban health facility in Ahmedabad.
Accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Shah participated in the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative at Ayushman Van in the city’s Ghatlodia area. The drive, organised by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), calls on citizens to plant trees in honour of their mothers.
Later in the day, Shah inaugurated an urban health centre in Gota ward, constructed at a cost of ₹3.84 crore. According to officials, the centre will provide a wide range of services, including Ayushman Bharat PMJAY cards, Abha health IDs, and benefits under government schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana and Janani Suraksha Yojana.
The facility will cater to maternal and child healthcare with gynaecologists and paediatricians offering examination, diagnosis, and treatment. Vaccination for mothers and children, as well as early detection and management of communicable and non-communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and cancer, will also be available.
Additionally, the centre will support programmes like Mamta Diwas for women and children’s nutrition and health, extend diagnostic and laboratory services, run a pharmacy, and provide guidance for mental health issues.
