The Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department of Punjab, in collaboration with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), organized a district-level camp on Friday. The event took place at Bhattal Farm in Naushehra Pannuan, with the aim of providing farmers with essential technical knowledge about kharif crops.
Inauguration by DC Sandeep Kumar
Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar inaugurated the camp, emphasizing the importance of adopting modern agricultural practices. He highlighted the benefits of Direct Sowing Rice (DSR) as a method to conserve underground water resources.
Environmental Conservation Emphasized
In his address, Kumar underscored the critical need to protect natural resources such as soil, water, and air. He cautioned that neglecting these resources could lead to severe consequences for everyone. To encourage the adoption of the DSR method, the state government is offering a subsidy of Rs 1,500 per acre to participating farmers.
Advocacy for Crop Diversification
Chief Agriculture Officer Harpal Singh Cheema also spoke at the camp, advocating for crop diversification. He encouraged farmers to consider alternative crops such as maize, basmati, and various vegetables in place of the traditionally grown paddy. Cheema’s message focused on the long-term benefits of diversification for soil health and economic stability.
Support and Guidance for Farmers
The camp served as a platform for farmers to gain valuable insights into sustainable farming practices and the latest agricultural techniques. Through such initiatives, the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department aims to foster a more resilient and environmentally friendly agricultural sector in Punjab.
