In a significant move to acknowledge the contributions of frontline health workers during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved the appointment of 676 healthcare personnel who were previously left out of regular departmental absorption.
Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak announced the decision, stating that these workers were initially deployed on a temporary basis across various districts during the pandemic. “Orders have now been issued for their integration into different health units within a month,” Pathak confirmed.
Previously, the state had absorbed 1,834 such temporary workers into the healthcare system. A new directive has now been issued to district magistrates, principals of government medical colleges, chief medical officers (CMOs), and hospital superintendents to facilitate the inclusion of the remaining eligible staff.
According to an official statement from the health minister’s office, appointments will be based on individual qualifications for positions including data analysts, lab assistants, OT technicians, AYUSH and BDS medical officers, lab technicians, ward staff, and sweepers. These appointments are slated to be made at various Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs and other health units.
Minister Pathak emphasized that only those who served during the Covid-19 crisis will be considered for these positions. In cases where vacancies are not available, CMOs are required to immediately notify their divisional additional directors. The government has warned that any delay or violation of the order will lead to disciplinary action and financial accountability for concerned district officials.
Reaffirming the urgency of the matter, Pathak stressed, “All appointments must be finalized within a month,” urging a process that is both transparent and efficient.
