To celebrate World Environment Day on Wednesday, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) launched a major greening initiative, planting 10,000 saplings in the Basant Kunj scheme area. The campaign, led by Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob and the LDA team, focused on the green belt developed in Sector-J near Rashtra Prerna Sthal. LDA Vice Chairman Indramani Tripathi emphasized the importance of environmental protection for improving human life, highlighting the agency’s commitment to sustainable development.
RDSO Focuses on Land Restoration and Drought Resilience
The Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) observed the day with the theme “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.” The event aimed to raise awareness about desertification and drought while showcasing measures to combat these issues. Activities included a Prabhat Pheri to spread awareness and a massive tree plantation drive at Happy Park, Sector-C, led by RDSO Director General Ajay Kumar Rana.

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University organized a program themed “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.” The event, held in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Science, the Innovation Council, and NCC, featured Prof Ajay Prakash, former Pro-vice Chancellor of Shri Ram Swaroop Memorial University, as the chief guest.
NCC Cadets’ Environmental Sustainability Efforts
NCC cadets from the Naval Wing, under the NCC Group Headquarters Lucknow, conducted a tree plantation drive along the Gomti Riverfront. This activity was part of the Puneet Sagar Abhiyan, which promotes the cleanliness of water bodies and the enhancement of green spaces near riverbanks. Additionally, the cadets organized a rally to raise awareness about global warming and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, along with a debate on the adequacy of current climate change mitigation efforts.
Collaborative Initiatives by Local Institutes
Several other institutions, including the Institute of Wildlife Science, ONGC, University of Lucknow, and IT College, participated in World Environment Day by organizing a Rudraksha sapling plantation drive and a Seed Rakhi distribution campaign. These efforts were part of a broader initiative to encourage environmental awareness and action across the city.
