Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated film Coolie hit theatres today, and within just a few hours of its release, it is already making waves at the box office. Early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk suggest that the film has collected around ₹18.5 crore nett in India on its opening day so far. The final Day 1 figures will be confirmed after the completion of night shows, and the film is expected to inch closer to the ₹20 crore mark.
While detailed statistics regarding nationwide occupancy and total screenings are still awaited, the early morning shows saw massive fan turnouts. Across Tamil Nadu and other regions, fans celebrated the release with traditional fervour — dancing to drum beats, bursting crackers, and even showering giant posters of Rajinikanth with milk and garlands. Some theatres witnessed screenings paused briefly as fans erupted in cheer during the superstar’s entry scene.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures, Coolie boasts a star-studded cast featuring Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, and Monisha Blessy. Bollywood star Aamir Khan appears in a cameo as the character Daaha, marking his reunion with Rajinikanth after nearly 30 years since their 1995 film Aatank Hi Aatank.
The film’s music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with songs already generating buzz online. Notably, Coolie has received an Adults-only (A) certificate from the censor board, making it Rajinikanth’s first A-rated film in many years.
Releasing alongside Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2, Coolie arrives at a special milestone — celebrating Rajinikanth’s 50 years in the film industry. While early reactions from audiences have been mixed, the opening box office performance suggests the superstar’s appeal remains as strong as ever.
