A five-day Farmer Training-cum-Exposure Visit Programme on “Integrated Farming System” for the North Eastern Hill (NEH) Region, with the participation of 27 farmers from Sikkim, was organized by the ICAR–Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, and successfully concluded on 6 February 2026. The programme was conducted from 2 to 6 February 2026 with the objective of enhancing farmers’ knowledge and skills in sustainable, resource-efficient, and diversified farming practices.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Anup Das, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna emphasized the adoption of climate-resilient agricultural practices with the judicious use of resources as per need to reduce production losses. He stressed that the adoption of smart farming practices using information technology and artificial intelligence is essential for making agriculture efficient, resilient, and future-ready. He further highlighted the growing importance of agri-entrepreneurship, value addition, and market linkages in enhancing farmers’ income.
Earlier, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Course Director and Head, Crop Research Division, presented an overview and assessment of the training programme, highlighting key learning outcomes and field-based exposure provided to the participants.
During the programme, participants actively shared their experiences and expressed satisfaction with the practical orientation and relevance of the training. Dr. Ashutosh Upadhyay, Head, Land and Water Management Division, highlighted the importance of the Integrated Farming System (IFS) through his poetry and urged the participants to apply the learnings in their respective fields.
As part of the valedictory session, certificates and agricultural inputs such as seeds, secateurs, spades, etc. were distributed to the participants.
The entire session was smoothly conducted by Dr. Abhishek Kumar, Co-Course Director-cum-Scientist, ICAR-RCER, Patna. “The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shivani, Course Coordinator and Principal Scientist, who acknowledged the efforts of scientists, staff, and participants for the successful conduct of the training”, as informed by Sh. Umesh Kumar Mishra, Member Secretary, Media, ICAR-RCER, Patna.
