A high alert has been declared across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh following a deadly explosion near Red Fort in Delhi, which shook the region on Monday evening and led to strengthened security arrangements by both city and state authorities.
What Happened?
The incident occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station, where a car explosion claimed the lives of at least eight individuals and injured many others. The powerful blast caused chaos in the crowded area, damaging vehicles, shattering glass, and forcing authorities to seal off a wide perimeter around the site. Security agencies, including Delhi Police, National Security Guard (NSG), and Special Cell, responded by cordoning off the immediate vicinity and investigating the cause of the explosion, which remains under scrutiny.
Immediate Response
Following the blast, Delhi was placed on high alert, with strict security checks initiated at key public areas throughout the city. Extra police personnel patrolled sensitive spots such as railway stations, metro premises, markets, and government buildings. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) issued high alert instructions for all installations under their security, including the Indira Gandhi International Airport and Delhi Metro stations.
In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna issued directives for intensive checking, increased patrols, and enhanced vigilance across markets, religious places, and border areas, especially those adjoining Delhi. The state’s Quick Response Teams, Bomb Disposal Squads, and Dog Squads were readied, while surveillance and local intelligence networks were activated for prompt reporting of suspicious activities.
Security Measures
High alert status has also led to the closure of the Chandni Chowk market in Delhi for the day, as traders and residents remain wary following the explosion. Security at all railway stations in the National Capital Region (NCR), and crowded public spaces has been ramped up, with authorities urging the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious individuals or objects immediately.
Police and security agencies in neighboring states such as Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand have also stepped up monitoring, checking vehicles, and reinforcing security at sensitive locations, temples, and historical sites.
Investigations Underway
Amit Shah, India’s Home Minister, has called for a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi; meanwhile, forensic teams and anti-terror agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), continue to probe the site for evidence. Investigators are working to determine the origin and possible motives behind the blast, while a separate arms cache incident in Haryana is being investigated for any links.
Residents of Delhi and UP are urged to stay alert and cooperate with authorities as enhanced security remains in effect to ensure the safety of all citizens in the wake of this tragic event.
