All public and private sector banks across India will function normally on Saturday, August 30, as it falls on the fifth Saturday of the month. According to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks remain open on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays, while the second and fourth Saturdays are designated as holidays.
The RBI publishes an annual holiday calendar under the Negotiable Instruments Act, which governs banking instruments such as cheques and promissory notes. Transactions involving these instruments are suspended on notified holidays, though customers can continue to access digital services.
Next Bank Holiday
The next nationwide holiday will fall on Sunday, August 31, when banks will remain shut across the country.
On the regional front, the next closure will be observed in Jharkhand on Wednesday, September 3, for the festival of Karma Puja.
Banking Services During Holidays
Even when physical branches are closed, customers can continue to use internet banking, mobile apps, ATMs, and UPI services for routine transactions. Only in cases of technical upgrades or outages may digital services face temporary disruptions.
