Around 120 crew members working on the sets of an upcoming Bollywood film in Leh district were admitted to hospital on Sunday, August 17, after showing symptoms of food poisoning.
The affected crew members were taken to the Sonam Norbu Memorial (SNM) Hospital in Leh when several of them complained of abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, and dehydration.
Dr. Tsering, Medical Superintendent at SNM Hospital, said doctors were alerted to the emergency due to the sudden influx of patients. “By the end of the day, we had nearly 120 admissions. The situation was managed with support from the district administration. Most patients have been treated and discharged, while five remain under observation. Fortunately, there have been no casualties,” she said.
Hospital authorities confirmed that the crew members fell ill after consuming food arranged at the shooting location. Samples have been collected and sent for laboratory testing, with results awaited.
A family member of one of the patients told ANI that his relatives were among those hospitalised. “The doctors and nurses were very supportive, and we received timely treatment despite the large number of people admitted,” he said.
The film’s production team has not yet released an official statement regarding the incident, and the name of the project has not been disclosed.
