The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued heavy rainfall across several states in India, triggered by an active monsoon trough and a low-pressure area currently moving west-northwestwards from Gangetic West Bengal across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh. This has resulted in waterlogging, school closures, and widespread disruptions in affected regions.
In Nagpur, relentless rainfall caused severe waterlogging in multiple localities, prompting District Collector Vipin Itankar to announce the closure of all schools and colleges across the district on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Ayodhya also witnessed intense rainfall in the early hours, further underlining the widespread impact of the current weather system.
The IMD has placed multiple states under an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall. For July 9, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Gujarat, and Telangana are under high alert. The warning continues for several of these states in the coming days, with Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh facing continuous alerts through July 12.
