
The capital city of Odisha, Bhubaneswar, recorded a scorching 40.2 degrees Celsius, marking the first time this year it has touched the 40-degree threshold, according to official reports on Friday.
Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest location in the state, registering a blistering 43 degrees Celsius. Several other cities also faced extreme heat, with Sambalpur recording 41.6 degrees Celsius, Hirakud at 41.2 degrees Celsius, and both Rourkela and Chandbali touching 40.4 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of intensifying heatwave conditions across the state, urging residents to take precautions. With no significant weather system in the region, dry conditions have prevailed across Odisha.
Temperature Forecast & Heat Wave Warning
According to the IMD, hot and humid weather is expected to persist across coastal Odisha. The maximum temperature is predicted to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next 24 hours, with no major fluctuations thereafter. A similar increase in minimum night temperatures is also anticipated.
In light of the rising heat, the IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for select districts, cautioning residents about potential heatwave conditions in parts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Boudh, Bolangir, and Kalahandi.
