Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday extended warm greetings to the people of Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya on the occasion of their respective state foundation days, highlighting the rich cultural heritage, traditions and development potential of the three northeastern states.
In a series of messages shared on social media, the Chief Minister conveyed his best wishes and prayers for the continued progress, prosperity and well-being of the people of these states, which came into existence as full-fledged states in 1972 following the enactment of the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act.
Greeting the people of Tripura, Adityanath described the state as one that is “rich in unique folk arts” and cultural heritage. He congratulated the residents on their foundation day and expressed hope that Tripura would continue its steady journey towards development and prosperity. “May this state, filled with the splendour of unparalleled cultural diversity, continue to progress and advance steadily on the path of development and prosperity,” he said, adding that this was his “sincere wish” for the state and its people.
Tripura, known for its vibrant tribal traditions, music, dance forms and handicrafts, has in recent years focused on infrastructure development, connectivity and tourism while preserving its indigenous cultural identity. The Chief Minister’s message underlined the importance of balancing development with the protection of cultural roots.
In a separate post, Adityanath extended his greetings to the people of Manipur on their state foundation day. Calling Manipur a land rich in art, skill and diverse cultures, he wished for peace, progress and prosperity in the state. “May this state, rich in art, skill, and diverse cultures, continue to progress steadily on the path of peace, progress, and prosperity,” he wrote.
Manipur, often referred to as the ‘Jewel of India’, is known for its classical dance form Manipuri, traditional sports such as polo, and a long history of art and craftsmanship. The state has also been striving to overcome social and economic challenges, with a focus on restoring harmony and accelerating development. Adityanath’s message reflected optimism for sustained peace and inclusive growth in the region.
Extending his wishes to Meghalaya, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister described the state as a “unique symbol of ancient traditions.” He congratulated the people of Meghalaya on their foundation day and prayed for the state to reach new milestones of development. “This is my prayer to God that Meghalaya, rich in nature, culture, values and folk faith, should create new dimensions of development and progress and touch new heights of growth,” he said.
Meghalaya, popularly known as the ‘Abode of Clouds’, is celebrated for its scenic beauty, matrilineal society and deep-rooted cultural values. The state has been working towards sustainable development, eco-tourism and the preservation of its natural resources, alongside efforts to improve infrastructure and livelihood opportunities.
Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur attained full statehood on January 21, 1972, under the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, a landmark legislation aimed at strengthening administrative autonomy and promoting balanced development in the northeastern region. Over the decades, the three states have developed distinct identities while contributing significantly to India’s cultural diversity and national growth.
Adityanath’s greetings reflected a broader spirit of national unity, acknowledging the importance of the northeastern states and reaffirming the collective aspiration for peace, prosperity and progress across the country.
