In a remarkable display of quick thinking and technological savvy, a 13-year-old girl named Nikita from the Basti district of Uttar Pradesh saved herself and her niece from a group of monkeys using an Amazon Alexa device. This heroic act has garnered widespread recognition, including praise from Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group.
The incident unfolded inside Nikita’s home while she was playing with her niece, Vamika, as other family members occupied separate rooms. Suddenly, a group of five to six monkeys invaded the house, wreaking havoc in the kitchen by tossing utensils and food items. The situation quickly turned frightening as one of the monkeys approached the girls multiple times.
Faced with the perilous situation, Nikita spotted an Alexa device perched on the fridge. Thinking on her feet, she commanded Alexa to play a dog’s barking sound. In response to her voice command, Alexa emitted loud barking noises, startling the monkeys and prompting them to flee.
Anand Mahindra took notice of Nikita’s ingenuity and bravery, hailing her as an exemplar of the potential for leadership in an unpredictable world. He expressed his admiration in a social media post, emphasizing the importance of technology as an enabler of human ingenuity.
Mahindra’s post read, “The dominant question of our era is whether we will become slaves or masters of technology. The story of this young girl provides comfort that technology will always be an enabler of human ingenuity. Her quick thinking was extraordinary.”
He further extended an offer of employment to Nikita, expressing his hope that she would consider joining the Mahindra Group after completing her education. “After she finishes her education, If she ever decides to work in the corporate world I hope we at @MahindraRise will be able to convince her to join us!” Mahindra wrote.
