BJP’s Ram Kripal Yadav Firm: “Nobody can change the Constitution”

Former Union minister and incumbent from Bihar’s Patliputra constituency, Ram Kripal Yadav, has vehemently dismissed the Opposition’s accusation that the Modi government seeks to alter the Constitution if re-elected. Yadav asserts that such a scenario is improbable, citing the protection afforded to the Constitution by leaders from marginalized communities, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu.

Opposition’s Allegations and BJP’s Response:

RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav recently alleged that the BJP harbors intentions of ushering in a “dictatorial” regime and could potentially rewrite the Constitution if returned to power. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promptly refuted these claims, emphasizing the enduring nature of the Constitution, stating that even its chief architect, Babasaheb Ambedkar, could not alter it.

Controversy Over Constitution:

The controversy surrounding the Constitution gained momentum following statements made by certain BJP leaders advocating for its revision. Ananth Kumar Hegde, a six-time MP from Uttar Kannada, called for a “rewriting” of the Constitution, linking it to the BJP’s electoral success. Hegde’s remarks sparked significant backlash, leading to his replacement by Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri.

Ram Kripal Yadav’s Rebuttal

Ram Kripal Yadav, however, dismisses such discussions as “nonsense.” In an exclusive interview with ThePrint, Yadav asserts the implausibility of altering the Constitution and emphasizes the dedication of leaders like himself to serving their constituencies.

Electoral Contest in Patliputra

Yadav, currently contesting against Misa Bharti, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, underscores the distinction between their candidatures. He criticizes Bharti’s alleged lack of availability to constituents and questions her record despite her party’s stint in power.

Yadav’s Departure from RJD

Yadav’s rift with the RJD traces back to the 2014 general elections when he was denied a ticket from Patliputra in favor of Misa Bharti. This incident prompted Yadav’s departure from the party, citing a departure from its founding principles of “social justice.”

Ram Kripal Yadav’s staunch defense of the Constitution and his commitment to serving his constituents underscores the ongoing electoral dynamics in Patliputra. As the political landscape continues to evolve, Yadav’s narrative reflects broader themes of party loyalty, principle, and representation in Indian politics.
