Yoga Maha Kumbh Events Begin Across India Ahead of International Day of Yoga

In the run-up to the International Day of Yoga, a series of large-scale yoga events titled “Yoga Maha Kumbh” have kicked off across various parts of India, aiming to promote holistic wellness through yoga and meditation.

A three-day Yoga Maha Kumbh began on Wednesday at the Heartfulness Meditation Centre in RK Puram, New Delhi. Organised by the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) and the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) in collaboration with the Heartfulness Institute, the event features yoga demonstrations, wellness workshops, and cultural performances.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Ayush, the New Delhi event commenced with an energetic ‘nukkad natak’ (street play) that creatively emphasized the importance of yoga in daily life, underlining its benefits for both physical fitness and mental wellbeing.

Simultaneously, similar Yoga Maha Kumbh celebrations are underway in Ladakh and Noida. In Ladakh, the International Festival of Yoga and Meditation (IFYM) 2025 began on June 15 and is drawing attention globally. Yoga sessions are being conducted at iconic locations such as Pangong Lake at over 13,000 feet, Nubra Valley, Sindhu Ghat, and the MIMC Devachan Campus. This initiative is being jointly organized by the Ministry of Ayush, Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre, the Ladakh administration, the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (Leh), and other partner institutions.

Noida also launched its Yoga Maha Kumbh on June 15 at Ved Van Park in Sector 78. The event is engaging local communities, especially youth and families, through eco-conscious yoga sessions called ‘Harit Yoga’, alongside essay and debate competitions, and interactive wellness activities.

These events are part of a nationwide campaign to celebrate the International Day of Yoga, observed every year on June 21, reinforcing the country’s commitment to making yoga a global movement for health and harmony.
