The 2025 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) concluded in thrilling fashion on September 22, as the Trinbago Knight Riders defeated the Guyana Amazon Warriors by three wickets in the final at Providence Stadium, Guyana. The victory marked Knight Riders’ fifth CPL title, reaffirming their dominance in the tournament’s history.
Amazon Warriors Struggle With the Bat
Put in to bat first, Guyana Amazon Warriors endured a stuttering start. Opener Ben McDermott chipped in with 28 runs, but Quentin Sampson was dismissed for a duck. Shai Hope (12) and Moeen Ali (10) failed to convert their starts, while Iftikhar Ahmed steadied the innings with a valuable 30. Dwaine Pretorius added late impetus with 25 runs, guiding the Warriors to a modest total of 130 before being bowled out.
Trinbago’s bowlers kept tight control throughout the innings. Left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar led the attack with three wickets, while Akeal Hosein picked up two. Andre Russell and Usman Tariq also chipped in with a wicket each to restrict the hosts.
Knight Riders Edge Through a Nervy Chase
In response, the Knight Riders’ chase began positively with Colin Munro (23) and Alex Hales (26) laying a solid foundation. However, Guyana’s bowlers clawed their way back, dismissing Nicholas Pooran for just one and Darren Bravo for 11.
Sunil Narine’s 22 and Kieron Pollard’s 21 brought some stability, but the chase remained tense as wickets fell at crucial intervals. Eventually, Akeal Hosein held his nerve to strike the winning runs, sealing a dramatic three-wicket triumph for Trinbago.
Veteran spinner Imran Tahir was the standout bowler for the Warriors, claiming three wickets. Shamar Joseph and Dwaine Pretorius picked up two apiece, but the disciplined effort could not deny the Knight Riders.
Another Historic Triumph
The victory gave Trinbago Knight Riders their fifth CPL championship, further cementing their reputation as one of the most successful franchises in the league’s history.
