OpenAI Launches Affordable ‘ChatGPT Go’ Plan in India at ₹399 per Month

OpenAI Launches Affordable ‘ChatGPT Go’ Plan in India at ₹399 per Month

OpenAI has introduced a new subscription plan called ChatGPT Go, designed exclusively for users in India. Priced at ₹399 per month, the plan is aimed at making advanced AI tools more accessible at an affordable cost, positioning itself as one of the company’s lowest-priced offerings so far.

Features and Benefits

The Go plan builds on the free version of ChatGPT by offering extended access to GPT-5, OpenAI’s most advanced model. Subscribers will benefit from higher message limits, additional daily image generations, more file uploads, and broader use of advanced data analysis tools such as Python.

Another key addition is doubled memory capacity, allowing for longer context retention in conversations compared to the free tier. OpenAI says the plan is targeted at users seeking greater flexibility without committing to the higher-priced Plus (₹1,999/month) or Pro (₹19,900/month) plans.

While the Plus plan includes extra tools such as legacy models, connectors, and Sora video generation, the Go tier is focused on affordability and essential AI features.

Availability

ChatGPT Go is being rolled out gradually across India. Users can check if they are eligible by logging into their ChatGPT account, selecting their profile icon, and navigating to “Upgrade Plan.” Once available, the “Try Go” option will enable subscription.

Subscribers will be able to access the plan on multiple platforms, including the ChatGPT mobile app and even through 1-800-ChatGPT on WhatsApp. However, OpenAI has clarified that API usage will remain separate from this plan and will require additional billing.

Payment Options

To support wider adoption, OpenAI has enabled local payment methods. Indian users can pay via credit cards or UPI in rupees, with subscriptions billed monthly and the flexibility to cancel anytime.

Strategic Move

The launch comes shortly after OpenAI revised its subscription pricing in India. With Go priced at less than one-fifth of the Plus plan, the company is positioning it as an entry-level option for individuals who want advanced AI access without the premium price tag.

OpenAI has confirmed that connectors, legacy models, and Sora will not be included in ChatGPT Go. Instead, the emphasis is on extended GPT-5 access and multimodal features at a budget-friendly rate. The company also noted that India will serve as a test market, with feedback shaping potential expansion of Go to other countries.
