Market Closure Alert: BSE & NSE Shut in October 2025 — Full Holiday Dates

Market Closure Alert

The Indian stock market is set to observe three holidays in October 2025, with both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) remaining closed for a total of 11 days, including weekends.
According to the trading holiday calendar released by the exchanges, markets will be shut on October 2 for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra, on October 21 for Diwali Laxmi Pujan, and on October 22 for Diwali Balipratipada. Alongside the equity markets, the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) and currency derivatives segments will also suspend trading on these days.

Muhurat Trading 2025

Despite the closures, markets will open for a special Muhurat trading session on Diwali, October 21. As per the circular issued on September 22, the Muhurat session will be conducted from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, with trade modification allowed until 2:55 pm.

This symbolic one-hour trading window, marking the beginning of Samvat 2082 in the Hindu calendar, holds cultural and financial significance. Muhurat trading is considered auspicious and is seen by many investors as the start of a prosperous year. Trading will be permitted across multiple segments, including equities, commodities, currency derivatives, futures and options, and securities lending & borrowing (SLB).

Traditionally, Muhurat trading has yielded positive outcomes for investors. Over the last 16 years, benchmark indices have ended in the green on 13 occasions. In 2024, the markets continued this trend, with the Sensex closing 335 points higher at 79,724 and the Nifty 50 gaining 99 points to finish at 24,304.

Remaining Stock Market Holidays in 2025

With festive fervor and cultural tradition intertwined with market activity, the October Muhurat session is expected to once again draw participation from traders and investors looking to mark the beginning of the new financial year with optimism.
