Indian Stock Markets to Remain Closed on August 27 for Ganesh Chaturthi 2025

Investors and traders tracking Dalal Street should note that there will be no trading activity in the Indian stock markets on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, due to the Ganesh Chaturthi holiday. Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), headquartered in Mumbai, will observe the state holiday, which is also listed in the official trading holidays calendar for the year.

According to the 2025 holiday schedule published on the BSE website (bseindia.com), trading across key segments including Equity, Equity Derivatives, and Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) will remain suspended on August 27. Currency Derivatives, as well as transactions in the NDS-RST and Tri-Party Repo segments, will also not be available on the day.

In the Commodity Derivatives and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) segments, the markets will remain shut during the morning session (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM). However, evening trading will resume from 5:00 PM onwards.

Stock Market Holidays in August 2025

This month marks two stock market holidays. The first was on August 15, observed nationwide for Independence Day. The second is on August 27, aligning with Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Maharashtra and other parts of India.

Upcoming Holidays in 2025

After Ganesh Chaturthi, five more holidays remain in the 2025 trading calendar. October will see three closures — Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra (October 2), Diwali Laxmi Pujan (October 21), and Diwali Balipratipada (October 22). Markets will also remain closed on November 5 for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev, and on December 25 for Christmas.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 Celebrations

Ganesh Chaturthi, one of Maharashtra’s most significant festivals, begins on August 27 this year and will conclude with Ganesh Visarjan on September 6. The auspicious Madhyahna Puja is scheduled between 11:05 AM and 1:40 PM in New Delhi, with local variations in timing across cities such as Pune, Chennai, and others.

Traditionally, devotees avoid sighting the moon on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi as it is believed to bring false accusations of theft, known as Mithya Dosham. The Chaturthi Tithi starts at 1:54 PM on August 26 and ends at 3:44 PM on August 27.

With festive fervour and market closures coinciding, investors are advised to plan trades accordingly and refer to the official BSE holiday list for further clarity.
