The Delhi High Court was placed under tight security on Friday after an anonymous email threatened to bomb the court complex. Proceedings in several courtrooms were abruptly halted as judges and staff were evacuated.
According to officials, benches rose suddenly once the message was flagged, and security personnel were deployed to secure the premises. The Delhi Police Special Cell and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have been tasked with investigating the source and credibility of the threat.
Chilling Email With Terror Plot Allegations
The email, purportedly sent by a person identifying himself as Vijay Sharma to a recipient named RG Arun Bhardwaj, made sensational claims of a plot allegedly linked to Pakistan’s ISI. It referred to attempts to recreate the 1998 serial blasts and cited potential attacks in Patna and Tamil Nadu.
The message also contained political overtones, accusing secular parties of dynastic politics and claiming that certain heirs of prominent leaders would be targeted to trigger what it described as a “new evolution of secular leadership.” One section of the mail even suggested an acid attack on a Tamil Nadu political figure.
It further alleged that sleeper operatives had infiltrated Indian police forces since 2017, awaiting activation on what the sender called “Holy Friday.” The threat indicated that an explosion inside the judge’s chamber at the Delhi High Court would follow Friday prayers.
Security Sweeps and Investigation
The entire High Court building was cordoned off and thoroughly searched by bomb disposal teams and dog squads. By late afternoon, officials confirmed that no suspicious object had been recovered.
A senior Delhi Police officer said, “We are examining the authenticity of the email. All necessary security protocols are in place. At this point, nothing suspicious has been detected inside the court complex.”
Meanwhile, cyber experts are working to trace the origin of the threatening email. Officials said investigators are treating the matter with utmost seriousness given the sensitive references made in the message.
Previous Security Alerts
The Delhi High Court has faced terror threats in the past, including the 2011 blast outside its premises that killed more than a dozen people. Friday’s scare prompted authorities to tighten checks not only around the court but also across sensitive installations in the capital.
As of now, proceedings remain suspended, and enhanced security continues around the High Court as the investigation unfolds.
