Banks in Ranchi will remain closed on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in observance of Karma Puja, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) state-wise holiday calendar. Banking operations in the rest of the country will continue as usual on that day.

Karma Puja Holiday

Karma Puja, also called the Karam festival, is a harvest celebration primarily observed in tribal regions of Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh. The festival pays homage to Karam Devta, the deity symbolising strength, vitality, and prosperity. Rituals include the worship of the Karam tree, which is believed to ensure good harvests, family well-being, and health. The festival falls on the 11th day of the lunar month of Bhadra.

Next Bank Holiday

Following Karma Puja, banks in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi will remain shut on Thursday, September 4, 2025, on account of First Onam, part of Kerala’s famous 10-day harvest festival.
