Mumbai’s relentless downpour has begun to impact air travel, with IndiGo Airlines cautioning passengers about possible delays in flight operations.
In a public advisory issued on Tuesday, the airline highlighted that heavy showers have caused severe waterlogging on multiple routes leading to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The resulting traffic congestion is slowing passenger movement, which in turn is affecting the timely operation of flights.
“Continuous rainfall in the city has led to water accumulation on several stretches of road near the airport. This is causing challenges in maintaining on-time performance, leading to delays in departures and arrivals,” IndiGo stated.
The airline has urged passengers to leave for the airport well in advance to avoid missing flights and assured that all efforts are being made to minimize disruptions.
Mumbai has been experiencing intense showers since the weekend, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the city and surrounding districts.
