The Operation Unfolds

The gunfight erupted around 2 pm in the Binagunda-Koragutta jungles of the Chhottebetiya police station area. According to official statements, security personnel were engaged in reconnaissance when they encountered the Maoist insurgents. Despite three security personnel sustaining injuries during the exchange, their condition was reported as stable.

Following the encounter, security forces recovered a substantial cache of weaponry from the site. AK 47s, INSAS rifles, .303 rifles, SLRs, carbines, and ammunition were among the items seized. The meticulous combing of the area continued into the evening as security personnel ensured thorough coverage of the region.

Identification of Casualties

Authorities are in the process of identifying the deceased Maoists to ascertain if any prominent leaders were among them. Inspector General of Police, Bastar, P. Sunddaraj, emphasized the importance of this identification process in determining the impact of the operation on the insurgency’s hierarchy. Reports suggest that Maoist leader Shankar Rao, with a bounty of Rs 25 lakh on his head, was among those killed.
