PM Modi to Embark on Three-Nation Tour, Including First-Ever Visit by Indian PM to Croatia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a three-nation tour beginning Sunday, with scheduled visits to Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia. The tour is aimed at deepening India’s bilateral relations and enhancing its global engagement on key issues.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Saturday that the visit will include Modi’s participation in the G7 Summit in Canada and mark the first-ever official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia.

First Stop: Cyprus (June 15–16)

Modi will commence his tour with a two-day visit to Cyprus at the invitation of President Nikos Christodoulides. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Cyprus in over 20 years.

During his stay in the capital city of Nicosia, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with President Christodoulides and engage with Cypriot business leaders in Limassol.

According to the MEA, the visit is expected to reaffirm the two nations’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding India’s engagement with both the Mediterranean region and the European Union.

G7 Summit in Canada (June 16–17)

Following his Cyprus visit, the Prime Minister will head to Kananaskis, Canada, to participate in the G7 Summit at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. This will be Modi’s sixth consecutive appearance at the G7 Summit.

The G7 comprises seven major advanced economies — Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States — along with the European Union as a non-enumerated member.

At the summit, PM Modi will join discussions on pressing global issues, including energy security, the role of emerging technologies, and the intersection of artificial intelligence with the energy sector and quantum technologies. He is also expected to hold multiple bilateral meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the summit.

The MEA highlighted that the upcoming Modi-Carney meeting would provide an important opportunity to explore a “reset” in India-Canada ties, anchored in mutual respect and shared interests.

Carney, a prominent economist and former central banker, took office as Canada’s Prime Minister in March following the resignation of Justin Trudeau.

Historic Visit to Croatia (June 18)

In the final leg of his trip, PM Modi will make a landmark visit to Croatia — the first by any Indian Prime Minister. He will meet Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and President Zoran Milanović during the one-day visit.

The MEA underscored that the visit to Croatia is a significant step in bolstering India’s strategic outreach in Europe and reflects its growing commitment to nurturing ties with European Union member states.

This three-nation visit is expected to contribute to India’s strategic goals in both bilateral and multilateral arenas, while enhancing cooperation in areas such as technology, innovation, and global governance.
