The Maharashtra government has directed all beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana to complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC within the next two months to continue receiving monthly financial assistance. The decision was notified through a Government Resolution (GR) issued on Thursday night.
As per the GR, Aadhaar verification is compulsory for eligible women to receive the ₹1,500 monthly allowance directly in their bank accounts. Those who fail to complete the process within the stipulated time will have their benefits withheld. The government has also made it mandatory for beneficiaries to undergo this e-KYC exercise every year.
The move comes after large-scale irregularities were detected in the scheme’s beneficiary list. The state government recently found over 26.34 lakh ineligible individuals, including men, enrolled in the scheme. Since its launch before the 2024 Assembly elections, the initiative has covered nearly 2.25–2.30 crore women. However, scrutiny led to the removal of around five lakh ineligible beneficiaries earlier this year, including 2,289 government employees and about 14,000 men who were wrongly availing the benefit.
Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare said that an online facility has been provided through the official portal ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in to complete the verification. She urged all beneficiaries to finish the process within two months to avoid disruption in payments.
“The process is simple, transparent, and will ensure that only deserving women continue to benefit from the scheme,” Tatkare said, adding that the e-KYC verification will also make it easier for beneficiaries to access other welfare schemes in the future.
The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana provides ₹1,500 per month to women aged between 21 and 65 years, aimed at supporting financial independence and social welfare.
