Shivraj Singh Chouhan Meets Agri Ministers to Boost Farm Sector

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a significant meeting on Wednesday with the agriculture ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The discussion aimed to address various issues concerning farmers and the agricultural sector in these states.

According to an official statement, Chouhan initiated state-wise discussions to ensure the “rapid progress of the agriculture sector in the country.” This follows his previous meeting with the agriculture ministers of Assam and Chhattisgarh last month.

Focus on Diversification and Modernization

In the meeting with Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi and Madhya Pradesh Agriculture Minister Adal Singh Kansana, Chouhan emphasized the central government’s commitment to the interests of farmers and the agricultural sector. He assured that the government would continue to provide all possible assistance to the states.

Several key issues were discussed, including:

  • Promoting diversification of crops
  • Use of information technology in agriculture
  • Digital crop surveys
  • Establishing a farmer’s registry
  • Enhancing the E-NAM platform
  • Strengthening Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs)
  • Implementing the PM Fasal Bima Yojana
  • Advancing agricultural mechanization

Opportunities in Crop Diversification and Natural Farming

Chouhan highlighted the potential for promoting crop diversification and natural farming in Uttar Pradesh. He reiterated the Centre’s commitment to achieving 100% procurement for pulses such as urad, arhar, and masur across all states, including Madhya Pradesh.

Ongoing Efforts for Agricultural Development

Since assuming office as the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development last month, Chouhan has been proactive in engaging with state ministers. His series of meetings aim to thoroughly discuss and resolve issues related to his ministries, ensuring expedited development and support for the agricultural sector.
