In a unique initiative to promote environmental conservation, the Shri Marwadi Rajasthan Shikshan Sanstha in Latur, Maharashtra, celebrated the birthday of over 5,000 trees. These trees were planted on the Sanstha’s previously barren land five years ago, near the Raja Narayanlal Lahoti English School.
Annual Celebration for a Greener Future
Held annually, the celebration aims to raise awareness about the growing threat of environmental pollution among students and the wider community. The event not only highlights the importance of tree planting but also encourages ongoing care for the environment.
Spearheading Environmental Initiatives
The initiative was led by Ashish Bajpai, the organisation’s secretary. A significant part of this effort involved the planting of 2,800 saplings using the Japanese Miyawaki method, an afforestation technique known for creating dense and fast-growing forests. This method has contributed significantly to the local green cover, attracting numerous bird species and enhancing biodiversity in the area.
Community Engagement and Environmental Stewardship
To foster a culture of environmental stewardship, the Sanstha has encouraged students and staff to take an active role in tending to the trees. This hands-on involvement has helped instill a sense of responsibility towards nature among the younger generation.
Honoring Environmental Champions
The event saw the participation of notable figures such as environmentalist Milind Giridhari, trustee president Laxmiraman Lahoti, and secretary Ashish Bajpai. Celebrations included a cake-cutting ceremony and a prize-giving event, where local environmental activists and social organisations were honored with trophies and certificates for their contributions to environmental conservation.
By celebrating the ‘birthdays’ of trees, the Shri Marwadi Rajasthan Shikshan Sanstha not only commemorates their growth but also reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable and greener future.
