The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), India’s flagship crop insurance scheme, continues to play a seminal role in ensuring financial stability and empowering rural communities, contributing to the growth of India. The scheme has ensured farmers reap the benefits of agriculture-friendly policies, technology-driven processes, and timely claim settlements.

However, the impact of PMFBY goes beyond financial protection. By reducing economic vulnerability, the scheme has empowered farmers to adopt modern practices, invest in productivity-enhancing inputs, and contribute to food security of the country.

The Rajasthan government has been leading the charge in transforming the state’s agrarian landscape by implementing this path-breaking crop insurance scheme for the benefit of farmers. The administration has succeeded in reducing agrarian distress, curbing indebtedness, and fostering confidence among farming communities. Its success stories resonate across villages, where farmers now view agriculture not as a gamble against nature but as a sustainable livelihood backed by government support.

Commenting on the successful implementation of the PMFBY and its benefits accrued to the farmers, Kumar Saurav, Chief Risk Officer, Kshema General Insurance Limited said, “PMFBY stands as a testament to the power of policy innovation and public-private partnership. We are committed to the government’s mission of expanding the scheme’s coverage, enhancing technological integration, and ensuring that every farmer, regardless of geography or crop type, can benefit from the protection it offers. Kshema being one of the implementing agencies in the state pledges to support PMFBY to the fullest to secure the future of farmers and their incomes.”

Kshema has stood by the farmers from Sri Ganganagar, Bundi and Alwar through seasons – executing the government guidelines in implementation of this pioneering policy. Kshema has been administrating the claim settlement process in Rajasthan in a time-bound manner by rigorously adhering to the PMFBY’s processes aimed at curbing malpractices with an aim to benefit farmers with genuine claims.

Meanwhile, Kshema is contesting the improper implementation of the Crop Cutting Experiment based on smart sampling technique for the Rabi 2024-25 season since the government guideline for the process was not followed. The matter is under appeal at the State Grievance Redressal Committee. It is also important to note Kshema’s diligence in vetting applications led to the rejection of 2,21,661 spurious applications for the Kharif 2025 season only. This action saved INR 30,17,53,384 in Union & State government subsidies.

In Karanpur tehsil of Sri Ganganagar, Kshema has disbursed claims worth INR 79 crores:

Kshema utilises its state-of-the-art technology platform, along with field surveys, to ensure any discrepancy can be handled at the individual unique applicant level to maintain the sanctity of PMFBY and deliver its benefit to farmers. This assures all genuine claims are settled in compliance with Government of India’s policy. The claim settlement for Kharif 2025 season in process and the disbursement will start as soon as the state government subsidy is received.

Kshema also relies on satellite imagery and other geo-spatial inputs to halt malpractices like insurance applications for farms where no crop has been sown or applying for insurance with a mismatch between the crop mentioned in the application form and the actual crop sown in the field. Kshema is vigilant in identifying frauds to protect the interest of farmers and safeguard tax-payers money. The Government of Rajasthan has been supportive of the actions taken by Kshema to combat these cases of fraud.

Kshema strives to settle every rightful claim of insurance in the shortest possible timeframe while adhering to the government guideline. Indulging in malpractices during application for insurance or obstructing authorised personnel from carrying on their field duties may lead to benefits of a visionary scheme like PMFBY not reach the rightful farmers.
