Once considered budget-friendly, Ahmedabad now features in cost-of-living indices as an expensive city. Rapidly rising real estate prices and rental pressures are driving living costs higher.
Premium coastal neighborhoods like Adyar and Anna Nagar command steep real estate prices. Alongside this, private healthcare, schooling, and lifestyle costs make Chennai one of the costliest cities in India.
With its booming IT, education, and automotive industries, Pune’s living costs are climbing fast. Property prices in Koregaon Park, Kalyani Nagar, and Hinjewadi are surging, while daily lifestyle expenses are also on the rise.
Once known for affordability, Hyderabad has turned into a high-cost city. Luxury flats in HITEC City and Gachibowli now sell for over ₹3 crore. Rising expenses on healthcare and education further push up the cost of living.
India’s IT hub has witnessed record-high rentals in Koramangala, Indiranagar, and Whitefield. Food inflation and severe traffic congestion add to living costs. Some indices even rank Bengaluru above Mumbai and Delhi in specific expense categories.
Covering South Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida, the region has seen rental prices surge by 12–15% in 2024. Education, healthcare, and lifestyle expenses remain steep, though the Delhi Metro offers some relief in commuting costs.
Real estate prices in prime areas like Malabar Hill, Bandra, and South Mumbai have crossed ₹1,00,000 per sq. ft. Rentals for mid-sized apartments can run into several lakhs per month. Add high transport, utilities, and lifestyle costs, and Mumbai easily tops the list.
